In March 2006 cult Aussie band Augie March released their 3rd album Moo You Bloody Choir. It was a long time coming. 18 months prior the band had started recording in San Francisco at the end of a gruelling 2-month North American tour; experiments with new song called One Crowded Hour showed some promise.
From there the project seemed cursed by a range of professional and personal crises: record labels merged, producers and engineers fought, band members were seriously wounded in assaults, motivations waxed and waned. It sometimes seemed as though the new album would never materialise.
Eventually it did emerge, the single One Crowded Hour struck like a lightning bolt and a small, critically popular band suddenly found themselves all over the airwaves as mainstream sensations. The album Moo You Bloody Choir climbed the charts and achieved platinum sales, won the prestigious Australian Music Prize and numerous other awards and accolades.
One Crowded Hour was voted #1 in the 2006 JJJ Hottest 100 and has continued to grow in status as an all-time Australian classic. The band toured the album in Australia and USA for the next 3 years to a growing international fanbase. They were great days indeed. Seems so long ago ... On its 20th anniversary, Augie March will perform Moo You Bloody Choir in its entirety for the first time ever at 5 special shows in Melbourne, Sydney, Brisbane, Adelaide and Perth.
