With a contemporary approach and a healthy dose of raw power, vocal-powerhouse WILSN makes classic soul music that feels at once timeless and of the current moment.
“Since I was a kid, I’ve been captivated by soul music - the emotion, the power, and the stories woven into every note - and I always strive to create music that not only reflects my own truth but also pays tribute to the stories and voices that built the foundation I’m standing on,” says WILSN. “Like those great soul singers, who came before me – my musical heroes - Aretha Franklin, Etta James and Gladys Knight to name just a few.”
Originally hailing from Geelong in Victoria, WILSN she moved to Melbourne to study jazz at the Victorian College of the Arts and to immerse herself in the city’s vibrant music scene. She signed a deal with US publisher Pulse, prompting a move to America, where she spent two years working with Grammy Award winning songwriters honing her craft, before being asked to join The Teskey Brothers on their 2020 tour of Europe and the UK, playing to sold-out crowds across the continent.
Her new album Bloom is the classic soul album WILSN always dreamt of making. Released through Mushroom Music, it was recorded in Brooklyn, NYC with an ensemble of legendary musicians from the New York soul scene - including members of Sharon Jones & the Dap-Kings, Thee Sacred Souls, Charles Bradley and Jalen Ngonda's bands. Debuting in the Top 40 ARIA album chart, and at #7 on the Aus Album chart, Bloom has received support both at home and internationally from media outlets such as Rolling Stone, BBC Radio 2, BBC 6 Music, triple j, Double J, NOVA, ABC TV, PBS and RRR as well as high profile playlisting support from Spotify and Apple Music.
Bloom sees WILSN blossom into the fullness of her musical powers and cement herself as one of the most essential voices in a new generation of Australian soul singers.
