The Line Up
Singer-songwriter Gordi will be bringing her unique style of folktronica to The Servo for the opening weekend of Great Southern Nights. On the final weekend, Nigerian singer songwriter Kah-Lo will bring tracks like “Fasta” and “Rinse and Repeat” to the Marlin Hotel, while much loved Beddy Rays bring their coastal punk rock to The Servo.
They say life goes at a slower pace on the South Coast - here are some recommendations as you meander around the gorgeous towns and soak up the good vibes.
Local Eats and Treats
The South Coast rewards taking things slow, and nowhere does that better than Kiama and Ulladulla. In Kiama, dining is shaped by ocean air and a strong sense of local pride. The Hungry Monkey is a long-time favourite for relaxed meals any time of day, while Penny Whistlers offers modern Australian dining with coastal views that are hard to beat, particularly at sunset. For something a little more refined, Miss Arda brings Middle Eastern flavours into an intimate, thoughtfully designed space that feels right at home in town.
Further south in Ulladulla, seafood takes centre stage. Rick Stein at Bannisters remains one of the region’s most celebrated dining experiences, showcasing local catch with a light, coastal touch. For something more casual, Ulladulla Wildfish Café is a local institution for fish and chips done properly, best enjoyed overlooking the harbour. Nearby towns like Milton also reward exploration, with bakeries, cafés and produce-driven eateries dotted throughout the village.
Where to Grab a Drink
Drinks on the South Coast tend to be relaxed, scenic and best enjoyed outdoors. In Kiama, Hanoi on Manning doubles as a lively bar in the evenings, while The Grand Hotel Kiama is a classic pub stop for a cold drink after a coastal walk. A short drive inland, Stoic Brewing in Gerringong has become a favourite for small-batch beers and a laid-back taproom atmosphere.
Around Ulladulla, Bannisters Rooftop Bar is hard to top for sunset drinks, pairing ocean views with cocktails and local wines. Cupitt’s Estate, just outside town, is also worth the trip, offering a cellar door, brewery and restaurant all in one picturesque setting.
Where to Spend the Night
Accommodation along the South Coast leans into coastal comfort with touches of luxury where it counts. In Kiama, The Sebel Harbourside Kiama offers modern rooms right on the water, ideal for exploring the town on foot. Boutique guesthouses and short stays around Kiama Downs and Gerringong also provide quieter alternatives within easy reach of the action.
In Ulladulla, Bannisters by the Sea remains an iconic South Coast stay, combining mid-century style with uninterrupted ocean views and access to some of the region’s best dining. For those looking to slow things down even further, surrounding beach towns and hinterland escapes offer peaceful, design-led stays that make it easy to settle in for a few days.
